Masters of their domains

Have you heard about type-in traffic, or, in Wall Street jargon, direct navigation?

I found a most interesting article at CNNmoney.com which reveals that millions of Internet surfers don't use search engines at all. Instead, they type what they're looking for right into the top of their Web browser – directly into the address line.

Although unconfirmed, the estimates are that as many as 15 per cent of searches come from type-ins. Considering that, 150 million out of the estimated 1 billion Internet users use type-ins. (According to the Computer Industry Almanac's statistics, released in January 2006, the number of Internet users in the world will reach 2 billion in 2011, 100% growth over late 2005).

That is a lot.
